Shah-Nameh is The book of Kings, the national epic of Persia/Iran. Written by one Ferdawsi - a poet equal to Homer and Virgil in his own language, which alas I do not speak - in the 1100s, it is superficially Muslim, but it brings together the ancient legends of Persia's Zoroastrian past. It is one of the great works of art of mankind, and, from my point of view, it is one of the most important items in an area I study, the epic traditions of the Indo-European peoples.
