Always tell the truth. If not out of principle, then at least out of precaution. The day might come when being believed on your word might make the difference between success and failure, or between life and death.

I make a point of giving praise where it's due, even to people I'm known to hate bitterly. Not only do I not have to keep track of a bunch of lies and prevarications, I find that this gives me the reputation of being a fair-minded, honest person, which comes in handy when I need to persuade people of things.
