---with Dreamwidth or InsaneJournal accounts or the like. How do you cross-post? Is there a way to make an entry in LJ or the other journal and just pass it on to the other account, or do I just have to copy and paste anything I write?

Everything [livejournal.com profile] mindstalk said is correct, although I'd like to add a couple of points. Not only does DW import LJ entries, it also imports the comments as well, which is something I find particularly appealing.

And while yes, you do have to trust DW with your LJ password, I find DW by far to be the more ethical and trustworthy site. The staff is responsive, respectful, they bend over backwards to treat their users fairly, and their practices are entirely above-board. I trust them, whereas the LJ staff and management have repeatedly demonstrated that their bottom line profits are worth far more to them than the relationship they have with their users.

And yes, I realize that I'm one of those who loves to sing the praises of DW. But I am also one who is staunchly loyal to those who have proven themselves worthy of loyalty and, in my opinion, DW fits that bill.

I can't speak for InsaneJournal, unfortunately. I think I made an account there yonks ago, but I've never done anything with it. I do know, however, that there are a number of downloadable clients that will crosspost entries to multiple sites. Again, I've not done much with that; I tried, at one point, but found the process to be too tedious and cumbersome to be enjoyable. Still, I know many people have no such issue with them, so that option may be something else for you to explore.
