Loathsome legalized robbery in Texas (and other places)

You don't think it matters till it happens to someone you know. http://apps.facebook.com/theguardian/commentisfree/cifamerica/2012/may/18/how-poor-made-pay-for-poverty A friend of mine from Texas who signs herself ani_bester on Livejournal has just been stuck with a $2000 fine for no reason at all, and she is desperate. If you can do anything to help, or if you just want to pass along a kind word, go to her LJ. This is the entry: http://ani-bester.livejournal.com/1012866.html

Yes, I think it is. I can't access it either.

I didn't realize that. It is, and that being the case, I don't know how much of her plight I am entitled to set out. What I can tell [personal profile] shezan is that the Texas Toll Roads authority stuck her with the bill, for times when she wasn't on the road at all, and then multiplied it when she tried to make the case that, you know, she wasn't actually on the road at the times concerned. A typical application of that process of legalized theft exposed by Barbara Ehrenreich, which you publicized on Facebook.
