I rather think that my answers to various people who commented on my last two posts were too curt and possibly even aggressive. I sincerely apologize. I should not even have tried to respond to lengthy and complex answeres having just come in tired and cold from a long bus journey.

I'm going to have to block out some time to read your essays in full, Fabio; some time after my exams.

This is a compliment, actually. It means that you think them worth while waiting for.

That you even thought an apology was necessary speaks to your trademark gallantry. :-)

You read this blog long enough to have seen me lose it altogether a few times. It ain't a pretty sight, as you ought to to know, and it is one reason why I really should try to put limits on certain forms of self-expression.

No problem -- you're one of the reasonable and polite people. And believe me, I've encountered enough of the other kind to know the difference :)

You haven't seen me lose my temper, then.

Sir, I felt much the same way after posting the comments I made. I would stand by the substance of the things I said, but the way I expressed them was neither particularly clear nor very polite. I’ve actually dreaded reading your responses, because I suspected you would give me a thoroughly deserved kick in the backside; and so far I have not found the courage to look at them. So you haven’t done me any harm; I’ve done it to myself.

I hope you can forgive me for provoking you to intemperate responses.

That's OK, then. But... Sir.. who?

Sir, I call you Sir because this medium makes me feel something like a fifteenth-rate Dr. Johnson, bombinating away in a virtual coffeehouse to have my utterances faithfully recorded by an electronic Boswell; and he called everyone Sir, with the possible exception of women. I mean by it that I respect the honesty and lucidity of your ratiocinations, even when I find myself upon the side opposed.

No apologies are necessary; nothing you said offended me. Taking offense is like taking a drink; the spirit will not affect you if you don't raise it to your lips yourself.

You could be twice as rude, and I would still tune in each week to see what you say.
