My brother's success

My brother, Pietro Vittorio Barbieri, has just been elected chief spokesperson (CEO, for all practical purposes) of Italy's national Forum For The "Third Sector" (non-profit organizations). This is a position that makes him the natural negotiating counterpart of half a dozen cabinet ministers, and a figure of international visibility. We are all quite proud.

Very exciting! Was it a rough election? Is everyone still speaking to each other?

Unfortunately, it does seem to have coincided with an internal split. I don't know anything about it except that a whole group of religious charities walked out.

Sounds exactly like the Irish situation; a fairly old joke has it that "The first thing on the agenda of any new Irish organisation is The Split".

Nevertheless, congratulations to your brother.

It's certainly not a new organization, but it takes a lot of patience to live in a voluntary forum of all voluntary organizations in Italy, given that many of them will be fiercely opposed to each other's ideologies.
