57. What did you watch last night on TV?
A breathtaking BBC documentary about the horrendous results of pederastic rape on a number of boys in Plymouth, England. It turned out that many of them had grown into violent, disturbed troublemakers and drugs and alcohol addicts. When you see a large, scarred, threatening-looking career criminal simply collapse into tears because he has realized that, twenty years ago, someone might have done something about the ring of abusers that was raping him, and nobody did anything, you need no more reason to lock up abusers for life. I think the climax of the story came when the judge who finally sentenced the head of the ring - a millionaire who thought that his wealth gave him immunity - to life in prison, said that he, the judge, understood what he was doing because he, the judge, saw among the witnesses in the case so many men he had sentenced before, and that this brought home to him all the cruel and lasting damage this monster had done. It was one of the most shattering things I have seen in my whole life. The idiots who write rape fics should watch it ten times before they write anything again.

I can recall several variations of what your initials might stand for from some past conflict. (And no, the "b" didn't stand for "brilliant".)
That documentary sounds heartbreaking. And I totally agree with you on rapefics. If you don't know what you're talking about, dont. touch, the subject. Child abuse is the most evil crime there is.

Neither. Good, thoughtful, well-made movies, whether they end as happy as IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE or as tragic as LA REGLE DU JEU.
Agreed. A happy ending just for the sake of a happy ending is crap. Too bad Hollywood is obsessed with it. Have you seen the movie Closer? I think that's done beautifully. It's a kind of ambivalent ending.
The idiots who write rape fics should watch it ten times before they write anything again.
Er. Hmmm. Can I say that I have watched documentaries like that and try to base my fics on them? Of course, I really do have trouble seeing Hermione doing drugs but I can imagine her retreating into a shell.
