Icarusancalion lectures me in her LJ about the supposed Christian humility I am supposed to lack. And then, to make sure that I am made to sound properly humble and chastened, she bans me from answering.

Incidentally, this was the answer I had drafted:

Excuse me, but where do you get off lecturing me about the "Christian quality of humility" I am supposed to lack? Are you a Christian? Do you have any right to speak for Christians? Christians are supposed to speak without fear of any person. "They will take you before judges and governors. In that day, do not wonder 'What will I say?', for the Spirit of the Lord will speak in you." If you are looking for a religion that does not encourage its members to speak out, I think you have the wrong one.

Hi Fabio, long time no see!
Not getting into your discussion with the other poster - no idea what were you talking about and it doesn't matter in a moment - I think that whereas you're right saying that Christians are supposed to be fearless, the question whether your critic is Christian or not is completely irrelevant to the mater of your humbleness.
One doesn't need to adhere to any moral system to point out the mistakes made by people who claim to do, but act differently. It's an example of "getting inside" given philosophical/ethical system and then measure its adherents by its values.
Of course I have no idea if the person in question posesses the necessary knowledge to do it. I merely comment on what you said, which is necessarily out of wider context.
For myself, I consider you a briliant and indeed rather fearless (at least in discussion) person, but you haven't made an impression of a humble one on me :) Of course the reasons for it may be many and I can imagine a good few.
Cheers, V.

Bufo makes a good point: there are several reasons why you haven't impressed me as being particularly humble. It's not a bad thing, mind you, as you should be able to show your pride in being Catholic, and you should be proud of how well you present your points and know your shizzit.

At any rate, I think theres a difference in lacking humility and being smug when it comes to being Christian, and I can only say that the former is infinitely better than the latter. It's absolutely right to be proud of where you come from, but thinking that it holds you above all else is a dreadful thing, and I can say with surety that you don't strike me as the smug type.

Gosh, banning someone from a journal so they can't properly answer one's attacks... what a novel idea!

What exactly does irony taste like?

There is a slight difference. I never insulted anyone, although Icarusancalion covered me with insults. If you do not like being banned from my LJ, don't insult me, don't threaten me, and don't come looking for trouble. Is that too difficult for your mighty mind to swallow, O Nameless One?

Actually, what I wanted to say was rather simpler: here is a self-proclaimed Buddhist demanding from a Catholic a virtue it does not occur to her to practice herself, and of which she does not have a great deal of understanding, when said Catholic is questioning her attitudes (and especially the great narrowness of her mind). Humility is a great thing, but it should not be thought that it should be used against honesty and clarity of mind.
