Spectacular hypocrisy
May. 14th, 2005 01:07 pmIcarusancalion lectures me in her LJ about the supposed Christian humility I am supposed to lack. And then, to make sure that I am made to sound properly humble and chastened, she bans me from answering.
Incidentally, this was the answer I had drafted:
Excuse me, but where do you get off lecturing me about the "Christian quality of humility" I am supposed to lack? Are you a Christian? Do you have any right to speak for Christians? Christians are supposed to speak without fear of any person. "They will take you before judges and governors. In that day, do not wonder 'What will I say?', for the Spirit of the Lord will speak in you." If you are looking for a religion that does not encourage its members to speak out, I think you have the wrong one.

Date: 2005-05-15 01:43 am (UTC)At any rate, I think theres a difference in lacking humility and being smug when it comes to being Christian, and I can only say that the former is infinitely better than the latter. It's absolutely right to be proud of where you come from, but thinking that it holds you above all else is a dreadful thing, and I can say with surety that you don't strike me as the smug type.
