The CD port of my new PC is stuck. I cannot open it. I suspect that there is a CD out of place in it. Can anyone suggest what I should do?

Are you sure it stuck mechanically or it's just windows? Try rebooting first and see what happens.
Then:
Did you try to: switch off computer and open it manually? There's a tiny hole in the front cover of the dive, where a piece of wire should be stuck and after delicate pressing (but still using some, just not too great force) unlock the drive.
Shaking the machine a bit, when it's switchd off, to make the cd fall flat is an option.

If there is a cd stuck, then do not try repeatedly open/close the drivee, cd pressed from ends may "explode".

Thank you. My machine is meant to be upright - tower - but I have laid sideways for convenience. Do you suppose that might be part of the trouble?

Did you manage? I went offline for a while?
If it's a tower, it should stay as a tower - there are some CD drives, which can work "vertically", but it must be specifically noted.
Try turning PC to its designated position and check if cd falls onto its drawer and it can be extracted one of the above methods.

I have to stay online for a while, and I can probably only try tomorrow morning. Thanks for all your suggestions, and I will let you know how it went.

Piece of wire: straightened paper clip is perfect and fits the hole exactly.
