Classical music

American classical musicians have a particularly bad reputation. Here is an account of how they get to be as they are:http://www.calendarlive.com/printedition/calendar/cl-et-notebook9jul09,0,5643462,print.story

Wow...now I see why. I'm not sure that these American musicians understand that not only does classical music have an aesthetic purpose, but a historical purpose, as well. When one goes to the symphony, one is also transporting oneself into a different time period and place. Perhaps European musicians have a better understanding of this, because it is part of their own history and culture. Nevertheless, I've heard a decent lot of American musicians with the right attitude (though many, it seems, were educated in Europe).
