You couldn't make it up no.15: politically incorrect

The other day, as I walked down one of Ilford's main roads, I spotted a man in front of me. I could only see his back. I noticed that he was big and muscular; and he was wearing a black t-shirt with the word Supreme in white gothic script and a cross-type design, the kind of thing that , to me, says neo-nazi a mile off.

Then, and only then, I consciously realized that I could see his skin. And he was black as coal.

A black man wearing neo-nazi gear.

I reckon that just goes to show you that 'diversity' is spreading to all corners of society.

Maybe he'd lost a stupid bet. Maybe he has a weird sense of humour.

Who knows. The thing is, he was large and muscular enough that I doubt that many of us would have gone up and asked him.

That's probably one of the reasons he can wear such stuff. Noone is going to give him a lecture.

Yeah, sometimes when I see a big tough man like that, I have this weird urge to go over to him and push him hard and call him a bad name that means wimp, but isn't "wimp". Why? I'm not real sure. I've never done it, and I never will. I think I'm curious as to what a man would do if a strange 5'2" woman did that. Would he punch me? Or try to walk away? Hopefully this urge will never overwhelm my common sense (and common courtesy!), and I will never know.

This reminds me of "The Black White Supremacist," an article in the New York Times about a biracial white supremacist. Here is the link: http://www.rickross.com/reference/supremacists/supremacists107.html. I hope that it's accurate; confusing somebody as a Yugoslav actress may be akin to thinking a beige mongolian to be biracial.

Also, I think that the person you are describing was simply ignorant of what he was wearing and thought that having the word "Supreme" on your shirt would be "really cool." I have the misfortune of knowing a fair amount of people, of a plethora of races, who would share a similar ignorant mindset.

It does seem the least unlikely solution. But, as I said, I was not going to ask him.

And as to who the heck I am....

In your last post, you asked me who I am and why I read your LJ. I will update my biography for you before the day's end, but to summarize, I am a fan of intelligent writing, and everything you write is brilliant. If I agree with you on a subject, you reinforce my beliefs. You also have a knack of showing me the other side of the coin, even if I disagree with you. And if I don't know much about a topic, you give me enough information to get started on some research. Your political debates are also fascinating, especially when Gun gets involved.

I am relatively new to the LJ community, and have so far been one of those "lazy-arsed fence sitters" that Gun talks about, although in another context; I post in other people's LJ's but not in my own. I just haven't gotten around to thinking about what to post.

With all of that said, can I friend you?

I already have friended you. Please do.

Perhaps he just think it makes him look cool. (I suppose that's the sort of thing that makes real neo-nazis see red.)

It does remind me of that fantastic Dave Chapelle skit with the white supremacist who also happens to be a blind black man. That was a fucking funny episode.
