A nice headline

Being both Catholic and marginally involved with the disabled rights movement, nobody needs have any doubts about my view with respect to the murder of the old and sick, a revolting practice disguised under the vile title of euthanasia. And of course, the recent Dutch decision to allow babies to be murdered impresses me even less. However, I have to admit that it has given rise to an excellent, grimly funny headline on a Catholic blog:

Holland Experiences Death Shortage, Expands Eligible Groups

*g*

As part of my job at the moment involves ploughing though rather a lot of turgid religious newspaper articles, it's a welcome relief to see someone take aim at the 'culture of death' with a different weapon...

Nice to hear from you. No news from me, and the only two bits of local gossip: 1) Bishop O'Malley, a Capuchin, has that Roman thing going on - handmade sandals. He'll fit right in.
2) I think we found the comic/toy box, but it will take a few days to go through it. Cross your fingers, but at least this box is dry. Another box may arrive this weekend, too. I'll post when I find anything.

Whatever the result, thanks for your efforts.

The Dutch can get really touchy about this. I was having a discussion with one of my schoolpupils and their teacher about the preconceptions - according to them they were misconceptions - about the Dutch.

Pupil: People say the Dutch are baby-killers! That's shocking!
Me: Well, the Groningen Protocol comes pretty close.
Teacher: Now hang on. It's not about killing people, it's about letting very sick people die.
Pupil: Yeah!
Me: *mental foreheadsmack*

Of course. Having decided to violate elementary decency and morality, they have to defend their position. It is a natural human instinct: people are always most defensive when they are grossly wrong.
At any rate, all those people will one day be old... and will begin, as thousands of elderly Dutch reportedly do, to refuse to visit their doctor for fear lest they should be booked for the exit lounge.

It's one of the reasons I came to the conclusion that I could not marry and have children in this country.
