I very much like the second portrait of the mortal Silver Angel, and the portrait Lord Camelot at the bottom--yes, I think my favorite is that second portrait of the mortal Silver Angel. I like the way you've darkened the background around her.
You can draw. Having not the slightest fraction of artistic ability myself, I'm always only slightly less astonished to learn someone I know can do that than I would be to learn they could fly.
They are all lovely, but I would guess from this that your Lord Camelot would be my favourite--he's gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous.
Having not the slightest fraction of artistic ability myself says the classical guitar player (Oh, yes, the musical instrument that Federico GarcĂa Lorca called "a six-horned bull").
I also thought that I did not have any artistic ability whatever - till I started drawing. What you see there is the result of a couple of decades of self-education, half of which was spent under the impression that I would never achieve anything. I am still a very limited artist indeed (for one thing, notice that everything is in black and white?), but I think that I am evidence enough for anyone that the only thing you need to do to learn to draw is draw.
There is a long continuity related to Lord Camelot and his looks. The mortal SA was born in England in 1950, and first lay eyes on him when she was eleven and supposed to play the piano (she would grow up to be a musician) in a village fete. At the time, he was seventeen, had not yet grown his beard, and was incredibly handsome, and when she saw who the guest of honour was, she just scrunched all the keys and then hid behind the piano. Years later, when her super-powers began to come out, she met him again. However, by that time she (Laura Lockridge, her secret identity) was being radicalized in "Camford", where she co-founded a women's group. For a while, there was no thought whatever of her getting married at all, though she was actually in love with him. The Silver Angel is someone to whom nothing ever comes easy; they only declared their love for each other and married in 1977. They had a daughter, who has a whole and very sad story of her own, but Laura died in 1997.
I am officially impressed. So glad you posted these-- I knew you could write, but it's so rare to see an artist/writer who's actually comfortable in both media.
Sorry it took my so long to reply, bu these just blew me away. They look incrably heric and have a real old school flare to 'em. The feel of the characters reminds me of early Al Williamson stuff.
The standing sketch of The SIlver Angel (is that right?) is especially striking!
I hope I can say this without sounding rude, especially after such a generous response. (Al Williamson? That's high praise, and more than I deserve.) Ani, you're one of my favourite people, and I always look forward to your posts, but you've got to do something about those typos. I take it that "heric" stands for "heroic"? And you do know that there is an edit button both on post and on comment forms?
Many thanks nevertheless.
And it is "the Silver Angel"; always with the definite article, but not capitalized. I usually shorten it to SA.
Oh don't worry , that was perfectly polite, and I'm not offended at all.
I do try to catch errors in posts I make to other people now, especially since LJ has provided a lovely edit function (finally!) to their comments, but in a lot of cases I'm commenting on the fly (which is why I don't use their spell check, it either eats my posts, doesn't work, or if it does, takes forever to use) so a few things slip by. Like on your post, I actually corrected 8 typos before I posted, but seemingly made 10 (heric, as well as bu rather than but, SI technically too, but I'm not counting that, more if I'm still missing some ^^)
But yeah I'm trying to get better in my comments, if for no other reason than I think it looks somewhat insincere to compliment yet not be able to spell it.
As for my own LJ though. I do it for fun, and editing, because of my problems with words, stresses me out horribly, so I just . . don't edit unless I *really* have reason to. I think also it helps me keep from taking fandom too seriously. People get so wraped up in their fandom image and knowing I don't worry about my editing on my own LJ helps me seperate LJ from anything I need to be serious about.
Because everything that's serious I have to edit 40 bajillion times and I don't want to devote that amount of my life to LJ 0.o
