Only once when I was a child. I looked it up to see whether it was true or whether anyone had had me on.

Anyway, Averno (Hell, or the Underworld) is a place in Italy, and the river Styx is a mountain stream in Greece.

When I went to college, i met a new friend from NYC, who did not realize that Kalamazoo was a real city until she went to college in MI. She and her friends used to say, "Go to Kalamazoo." in the same sense as "Go to Timbuktu."---take off, or go get lost in the boonies.
