A small success

I made my first successful stir-fry; and I made it all with fourth-rate ingredients (except perhaps for the sachet of sauce).

A wok is a fine thing

Actually, I had to use a pan. I have a wok, but I have an electric flat hob that means that the sides never get hot enough.

Yep you really need gas flame...

To get the wok hot enough.

Alas the arthritis in my wrists got bad enough that all the chopping involved with stir frying became a torment to me. I haven't used my wok in years. These days I do a lot of braising.

Have to look up. An old joke book: "100 Ways to Wok Your Dog".

Fourth-rate ingredients?

Bits and bobs of leftover vegetables, ultra-cheap dry noodles (which I first boiled separately) and cauliflower leaves. You can use those for cabbage, they work as well as any other, so long as you chop them fine because of their thick white veins.
