Little personal triumph

I made beef in aspic today for the first time, AND it tastes great! Kind of a waste to be eating it all alone, though.

You know I'd come over ... if I wasn't in a different country on a different continent!

What's aspic?

Jelly. To make a dish in aspic, make broth and then use jelly to solidify it. Of course it is not meant to be sweet, like fruit jelly, but pleasantly salty.

sounds very tasty ! Come over to Australia and we can have Kangaroo fillet. Very nice and good for you and we have many Kangaroos. We are the only nation in the world (as far as I know) that eat the animals on their Coat of Arms.

Been there, done that, climbed Ayers Rock, nearly died of dehydration on the way down from Fitzroy Island (my own stupid fault). I have an idea that the kangaroo I ate was either not of the best quality or cooked by an incompetent, though. So I might come back just to see whether there is any better.

Aren't there some countries that feature the ostrich in their coats of arms? I seem to remember that, but don't have time to investigate right now.

yep. Needs to be cooked by an expert . We had excellent Kangaroo at Jacobs Creek estate restaurant in Barossa Valley. Best I ever tasted. I wouldnt try to cook it at home.

My father, who was with me at the time, later commented that the kangaroo in question may have been dead, but it was still jumping!

No fair eating real food!!!

Bring some over! I'd share, since I'm not cooking! :)

Actually, We had jelly of the fruit kind, with peanut butter on whole wheat...that passes for home cooking here these days. I miss having someone to cook proper meals for, as the small people here are pretty much into meals that do not require flatware...

Ahh, yes. All the experts insist on children eating real and wholesome food, and no expert will tell us how to make children eat it without discipline of the most Victorian severity....

Exactly. I am just happy that they eat, as some of my friends/coworkers have kids that cause a ruckus at mealtime, refusing to eat. My kids eat, but they eat "kid food", like pb&j, yogurts, apples (lots of fruit), spaghetti, and so on. Since I'm the only adult here (ah, the joys of being a single mom), I tend to pick my battles carefully...I'm not wasting energy on fighting at mealtime, when I can save my sanity and know that eventually the kids might eat something that did not require ketchup.
